KAUST Ph.D. student wins Magnetism as Art Showcase Award

Jose Efrain Perez, a Ph.D. student based in the University's Sensing, Magnetism and Microsystems Laboratory, won the Magnetism as Art Showcase People's Choice Award at the 62nd Annual Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM) 2017 for his artwork entitled "Magnetic Nanobeacon." Efrai­n Perez, who is supervised by Professor Jurgen Kosel, won the award at the MMM's annual showcase which was held in Pittsburgh from November 6 to 10, 2017. His colleague Zahra Albu presented and accepted the award on his behalf.

KAUST students win top honors at ICM 2018

KAUST Ph.D. students Abdullah S. Almansouri and Hanan Mohammed recently won top honors at the 21st International Conference on Magnetism (ICM 2018), which took place in San Francisco, U.S., from July 15 to 20. Almansouri won the Best Poster Award, while Mohammed won the People's Choice Award in the Magnetism as Art Showcase. The ICM is an international conference series attracting more than 2,000 global attendees, and it continues with a series of meetings that are held every three years around the world.

Biography David Lago Cachón received his B.Sc. in Physics, specialization in Electronic, Automatism and Signal Processing in 2008 and his M.Sc. in Science and Technology of Materials in 2010, both from University of Oviedo. He obtained his PhD in Applied Physics in 2016, with qualification Excellent cum laude and proposed to Extraordinary doctorate award. At the same time, he has been highly implicated in Science Communication, given talks in schools, pubs and even a TEDx. Also, he has been interviewed and consulted by local and regional media.
