KAUST Ph.D student, Jorge A. Holguin-Lerma, awarded 2019 SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship

SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, recently awarded KAUST Ph.D. student Jorge Holguín-Lerma a 2019 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship for his potential research contributions to optics, photonics or other related fields. Holguín-Lerma joined KAUST in August 2016 and is a member of Professor Boon S. Ooi's Photonics Laboratory.

The JSAP was established in 1930 as a voluntary forum for applied physics researchers in the country. Jorge Holguín-Lerma receives 2020 IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Scholarship

KAUST Ph.D. student Jorge Holguín-Lerma has recently been named a recipient of the 2020 IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Scholarship. Holguín-Lerma was one of only ten students worldwide to receive the Society’s most competitive scholarship for graduate students in photonics. The award acknowledges both his work at KAUST and the potential impact of his future research.

Jorge A. Holguin-Lerma

Jorge A. Holguín-Lerma is a Ph.D. Student in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the KAUST Photonics Lab. He holds an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering (KAUST, Saudi Arabia, 2016), and a college degree in Electromedical Engineering (ULSA Chihuahua, Mexico, 2012). Before joining KAUST he worked as Component Engineer at Honeywell. Jorge has authored and co-authored 40+ journal papers and conference presentations. He has served as a technical referee for the journals Light: Science & Applications (Springer Nature), Applied Optics (OSA), Optics Letters (OSA), Optics Express (OSA)

Haiding Sun

Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Advanced Semiconductor Laboratory
Haiding Sun was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Professor Xiaohang Li at the Advanced Semiconductor Laboratory at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Education and Early Career Dr. Sun received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, Massachusetts, in the United States in 2015. His Ph.D. dissertation title was “Development of Aluminum Gallium Nitride-Based Emitters In The Form of Graded-Index Separate Confinement Heterostructure (GRINSCH)." Research Interests Dr. Sun ’s research works cover various aspects of semiconductor device designs
